frequently asked questions
- what is Ellura?
- Ellura is a highly potent medical grade supplement that helps keep your urinary tract clean.
- how does Ellura work?
- The soluble PAC in Ellura bind to UTI-causing bacteria, preventing them from sticking to the bladder. When bacteria can’t stick, they can’t cause an infection. The harmful bacteria are simply flushed out with urine in a normal and healthy manner.
- why should I take Ellura versus other cranberry supplements?
- Not all cranberry supplements are created equal. Just because a supplement says it has 36mg of PAC on the label doesn’t mean it has the medical-grade potency of Ellura. Only the soluble PAC in Ellura have been proven superior at keeping UTI-causing bacteria from sticking to the bladder.
- what are proanthocyanidins (PAC)?
- PAC (or proanthocyanidins) is the active ingredient in cranberries. Only Ellura is made using a proprietary double extraction process that ensures every capsule contains the most potent, medical-grade PAC.
- who should take Ellura?
- Anyone who suffers from UTIs, and especially people who get them frequently. While UTIs affect mostly women, men may develop UTIs as well and can benefit from once daily Ellura. You may also want to consider Ellura if you are prone to UTIs as a result of sex; certain birth control; menopause; various medical conditions, like diabetes or conditions that limit your mobility; or you use a catheter to urinate.
- do I need a prescription to take Ellura?
- No. While we’re proud to note that the 36 mg PAC (proanthocyanidins) in ellura is medical-grade and that ellura is trusted and recommended by healthcare providers worldwide, it’s considered a dietary supplement (in the USA) and does not require a prescription.
- how often do I take Ellura?
- To maintain a clean urinary tract: Take 1 capsule daily with water about the same time every day. For known triggers (such as travel, stress, lack of hydration, or inability to visit the bathroom ) or if early warning signs, take 2 capsules daily as needed, then return to one daily.
UTIs from sex: Because intercourse often results in bacteria in the urethra, take 2 capsules of Ellura before or after sex and then 2 the following day (4 capsules total), OR take 1 Ellura daily to stay ahead of UTIs no matter when the moment is right.
Remember: Ellura won’t treat or cure a UTI, but it can help maintain a clean urinary tract to avoid future UTIs. If your doctor confirms an active UTI, take Ellura daily with your antibiotic to help your body flush out the bacteria. Learn more about taking Ellura to stay head of UTIs. - do I take Ellura with or instead of an antibiotic?
- If you have a confirmed UTI, it will likely require antibiotic treatment. You can take Ellura with your antibiotic until the infection clears and then continue taking Ellura once daily to maintain a healthy urinary tract. Please note, however, that taking antibiotics every day to prevent UTIs may not be the best plan. Harmful bacteria become resistant to antibiotics and they have many unwanted side effects - like stomach upset, allergic reactions or yeast infections.
- is Ellura acidic?
- It is about the same as a cup of coffee. To put it into numbers, the pH of water is 7, cranberry juice is a much more acidic 2.7, and the pH of ellura is about halfway between the two, at 4.44. If you are sensitive to more acidic foods, consider adding an acid neutralizer available over-the-counter.
- is it possible to be allergic to Ellura?
- While uncommon, if you have a red fruit allergy, consult your doctor before you take Ellura. Ellura contains .025 mg of salicylic acid (an active metabolite of aspirin) per capsule. Those with an allergy to aspirin should use caution if taking Ellura.
- can children take Ellura?
- Yes. Safety and efficacy in children have been tested. Children under 50 pounds can take half a capsule of Ellura once daily. Children 50 pounds and more can take the entire capsule. If a child can’t swallow the capsule, mix the contents into a sweet beverage or soft food.
- can pregnant women and nursing mothers take Ellura?
- We have no studies on the use of Ellura in pregnant women and nursing mothers. We recommend pregnant women discuss with their doctor prior to taking any supplement.
- can I take Ellura if I’m a diabetic?
- Yes. Ellura has no added sugar, so its glycemic index is quite low, and it won’t raise your blood sugar. The capsule itself contains only a trace amount of sugar, 0.0026 mg per capsule.
- can I take Ellura if I'm also taking blood thinners?
- Yes! We remove virtually all of the Vitamin K from our formula, an ingredient which may impact the efficacy of blood thinners.
- will Ellura give me kidney stones? will it aggravate the ones I have?
- No and no. Kidney stones and oxalates go hand in hand. Oxalates occur naturally in cranberries and cranberry juice and are found in high levels in some supplements. But Ellura has a mere fraction – as little as a tenth – of the oxalates found in other cranberry products. This is because, while Ellura does include cranberry extract, about 90% of the oxalates are left behind in our proprietary, complex manufacturing process when the active ingredient, PAC (proanthocyanidins), is extracted. Ellura contains an average of 0.104 mg of oxalates per capsule.
- what if I have interstitial cystitis (IC)?
- While Ellura is for urinary health and not for treating IC, if you are getting UTIs as a result of IC, then yes you can take Ellura. It has about the same acidity as a cup of coffee or cola. If that amount would bother you, you can take Ellura along with an acid reducer. However, please be sure to talk to your doctor for proper IC treatment.
- what is Māge?
- Māge is a probiotic made specifically for women. Māge contains a proprietary blend of the most clinically studied prebiotics and probiotics proven to help restore balance to the female pelvic triangle: the gut, vagina, and urinary tract.
- what makes Māge different?
Two things make Māge unique: The blend of probiotics contained in Māge were specifically chosen because they’re clinically proven to help balance the entire female pelvic triangle: the gut, vagina and the urinary tract. Māge is also a prebiotic, and the prebiotic in Māge is not like any other: PreforPro® destroys the bacteria most commonly responsible for UTIs and other vaginal infections while simultaneously fortifying the probiotics as soon as they reach the gut, so they are able to thrive and multiply in the gut, and then travel through the rest of the pelvic triangle.
- should Māge be taken with or without Ellura?
- Māge and Ellura can be taken together or separately—whatever works best for you. What matters most is that both Ellura and Māge are taken daily, around the same time each day, for best results. Please note: If managing UTIs is your goal, Māge will not be an effective replacement for Ellura. Think of Māge as added support; probiotics are one more tool recommended by Urologists to help maintain overall female pelvic health.
- can men take Māge?
- Men can take Māge if desired; it’s good for gut health! Since Māge is specifically designed for women (it’s also good for vaginal and urinary tract health), it will contain probiotic strains most men won’t need. That said, men who rely on catheters may need extra support. In this case, Māge may help them, as well.
- can a probiotic help with UTIs? if so, how?
- To a degree. A balanced and healthy pelvic triangle (gut, vagina, urinary tract) can reduce the incidence of urogenital & gut issues such as UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, constipation, and diarrhea. The correct probiotic strains in clinically proven doses can help reduce the number of bad bacteria that cause those issues. However, if you suffer from recurrent or chronic UTIs, it’s unlikely that probiotics alone will help. The best way to help manage recurrent UTIs is by taking Ellura.
- why is there a need for a probiotic designed specifically for women?
- Men and women’s bodies are different down to the cellular level, and yet, we often ingest supplements and medicines that don’t account for the gender-specific differences. When it comes to cold medicines, it’s less important. But when it comes to pelvic health, your probiotic supplement choice can make a big difference. For example, the gut is just one third of a woman’s pelvic region, and an imbalanced gut can have a significant ripple effect across the entire female pelvic triangle, as any women who’s ever had a yeast infection following a round of antibiotics will know all too well.
- what is the recommended dosage and how often should I take Māge?
- Māge contains 15.7 billion CFU per capsule, a clinically proven efficacious amount of prebiotics and probiotics. You should take one Māge capsule around the same time every day.
- what if I miss a dose?
- If you miss a dose, don’t worry. You can take your next capsule as soon as you remember. It is important to take Māge around the same time every day so it remains active in your intestinal tract. As with most probiotic supplements, once you stop taking Māge daily, the recolonization of unhealthy bacteria strains is likely.
- should Māge be taken with or without food?
- Māge can be taken with or without food, and even on an empty stomach.
- do I need to keep this probiotic in the fridge?
- Māge does not require refrigeration because it is built in such a way that the CFU counts are viable until the expiration date. Store Māge in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration may extend shelf life a bit, but it is not required.
- can I take this probiotic with an antibiotic?
- Yes you can, and you should! Just make sure to give yourself at least two hours before or after the antibiotic so that its beneficial microorganisms are not affected by antibiotics. Taking Māge will aid in balancing pelvic health (gut, vagina, urinary tract) by replenishing the good bacteria that might also be eradicated by the antibiotics.
- does Māge interact with any medicines?
- Probiotics can interact with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) used to treat gastric and esophagus diseases, such as acid reflux and ulcers, by reducing the efficacy of the PPI. To avoid this, take Māge at least 2 hours after a proton pump inhibitor to maximize the benefits of both the PPI and Māge.
- are there any known side effects of taking Māge?
- Probiotics are beneficial bacteria and are generally considered to be free of side effects. Very rare and very minor side effects can be nausea, bloating, gas, and headaches.
- do you have any studies to support the effectiveness of Māge’s ingredients?
The specific strains of probiotics and the prebiotic in Māge were selected because they have been studied extensively:
• Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 - 37 In vitro studies & 17 clinical trials
• Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 - 85 In vitro studies & 47 clinical trials
• Bacillus subtilis DE111 – 30 clinical trials
• Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 (DR10) - 62 In vitro studies & 39 clinical trials
• PreforPro® - 20 clinical trials
- how long does it take for Māge to start working?
If you’re experiencing GI issues, you should notice a difference within a few days thanks to PreforPro®, the powerful prebiotic contained in Māge. For general health (immune health), it can take 6-8 weeks to feel a difference.
- can I stop taking Māge if my issues are “fixed”?
- Māge should be used daily to help keep your pelvic triangle (gut, vagina, urinary tract) in balance. Life happens; things like daily stresses, diet changes, travel, weather change, etc., can disrupt your body’s natural balance. It’s most often these imbalances that are the root cause of digestive, vaginal, and urinary tract issues. If something in your life has changed and the root cause of your imbalances no longer exists, you can take a break for a few months to see if you still need it. However, even in that case, there’s no harm to staying the course with Māge, and it can even be beneficial.
- what is Via?
- Via is a non-hormonal vaginal moisturizer, clinically designed to replenish the body’s naturally occurring supply of moisture when used regularly.
- how is Via different from other vaginal moisturizers?
- Via is a fresh look at what a vaginal moisturizer should be based on today's science. Simply put, it is clinically designed to ensure maximum delivery of each ingredient. Via is also a luxurious cream emulsion, so it is not greasy, sticky or messy.
- how does Via work?
- Via is designed to be absorbed by the skin, to replenish the body’s naturally occurring supply of moisture when used regularly.
- what is the difference between a vaginal moisturizer and a lubricant?
- Lubricants are a short term “fix” for discomfort or pain during sex, or just to make sex more fun/enjoyable. Lubricants are more slippery, less absorbent, and are meant to be applied just before or during sex. Vaginal moisturizers address the underlying issue of dry tissue and can be applied at any time. Vaginal moisturizers are meant to be used on a consistent, ongoing basis for continued benefit, just like you would use body lotion regularly to moisturize the rest of your body.
- can I use Via as a lubricant?
- Via can be used to increase comfort during sex, but it will not produce the same level of slipperiness as a lubricant. Lubricants tend to be oil-based formulations and they sit on top of your skin, whereas moisturizers are absorbed into the skin to rehydrate the cells. Regular use of Via could lessen the need for a lubricant if you don’t wish to use one.
- what are the symptoms of vaginal dryness?
- The most common indications of vaginal dryness are discomfort or pain with sex or urination, or increased frequency of vaginal and urinary tract infections.
- can I have vaginal dryness and atrophy and not know it?
- The most common indications of vaginal dryness are discomfort or pain with sex or urination, and increased frequency of infections. If you don’t have these problems, chances are you’re not yet experiencing vaginal dryness. But to be safe, you might want to check with your healthcare provider during your next pelvic exam.
- are there any known side-effects of using Via?
- There are no known side effects with use of Via. If you experience any signs of discomfort, please discontinue use and consult with your health care provider. Please call us at 877.421.7160 or email us at help@solvwellness.com so we can learn more and help you.
- is via free of: fragrance, hormones, parabens, gluten, alcohol, dyes, preservatives, GMO?
- Yes, Via is made with only the highest quality ingredients that were carefully selected to work in harmony for maximum comfort.
- my doctor has prescribed an estrogen-based product for vaginal dryness. would Via be an alternative?
- Via is a non-hormonal vaginal moisturizer and is an alternative to estrogen-based products if you’re concerned about using a product with hormones. However, if your doctor prescribed the estrogen-based product, then they likely deemed it safe for you to use, and we would advise you to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendation. That said, while estrogen supplementation returns you to your previous normal state, for some women that is not enough. In this case, supplementation with Via can help.
- how does Via work in combination with Ellura and/or Māge?
- Via works together with Ellura and/or Māge to help optimize the health of your entire pelvic triangle (vagina, gut, and urinary tract). There’s a reason we call it a triangle: it’s all interconnected! The three microbiomes are each unique, with specific needs that impact the others: Via rehydrates the skin of the vagina, which impacts the vaginal microbiome, Ellura helps prevent UTI-causing bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract wall, and Māge prebiotic and probiotic formula helps bring harmony to all three microbiomes.
- how do I apply Via?
• Dispense 2-3 pumps (a dime-sized amount) onto a clean, dry finger or onto the tip of the applicator.
• Insert your finger or the applicator up to 1 inch into your vaginal canal (past the vulva). You can find a diagram here. One inch is as deep as you need to go, as that’s where maximum absorption occurs.
• Gently apply the lotion to the external opening, also known as your vulva.
• Wash your hands and the applicator after each use.
• Apply at least 3 times per week. For best results, use daily.
- how long does it take to start working and how long should I use Via?
- You should feel some relief right away, although it may take up to 12 weeks of regular usage for a more noticeable improvement. (Of course, results will vary.) Via should be applied at least 3 times per week, and it’s safe to use daily. Think of Via like any other moisturizer you use on your skin—you need to use it regularly to continue to experience its benefits. Via is not a cure for dryness, but it will treat your dry vaginal skin for as long as you use it.
- how long should a bottle last if I use as recommended?
- If using Via daily as recommended, one bottle should last you about one month. You can always sign up for our Subscribe & Save program to make sure you don’t go without Via (you will also save 15% every order!).
- can I use Via if I have a current infection?
